it was during the same Belur visit that i was able to capture this frame. As said in previous post this temple is fully covered with carvings.

It is stated that "what the Parthenon is to Greece and the Pyramids to Egypt, the Hoysala temples are to South Indian architecture". Jakkanna Achari is credited as the Chief architect of this temple and the one in Halebidu.

Between A.D 1000 and A.D 1346 around 1,500 temples in 958 centres, were built during the Hoysala period.

Hoysaleswara temple

Hoysaleswara temple is dedicated to Hindu God Shiva. It was built in Halebidu during the Hoysala Empire rule in the 12th century by King Vishnuvardhana.

The construction was completed in 1121 CE. During the early 14th century, Halebidu was sacked and looted by Muslim invaders from northern India and the temple fell into a state of ruin and neglect.

Previously known as Dorasamudra or Dwarasamudra, Halebidu is 16 km from Belur, 31 km from Hassan and 149 km from Mysore, in the state of Karnataka, India.

The garden surrounding the Hoysaleswara temple is a beautiful landscape. It was a nice enjoying the cool breeze from the neary by river.

Carving on Chennakesava Temple

This is one of the carving on the chennakesava temple wall. Even the minute details are carved with atmost perfections. The carving has withstood weather and invaders and vandals for almost a millenium.

Chennakeshava Temple Wall carvings are based on the theme of "Shilaabaalikas" (Beautiful stone girls). I would really suggest this place for anyone who is interested in history and architecture.

Lord Chennakeshwara Temple

Belur is a small town located on the banks of River Yagachi, in Hassan district of Karnataka. Belur was the early capital of the Hoysala Empire. Belur is considered as the Banaras of South and is thus also known as Dakshina Varnasi.

It was during my Hassan visit with my friends that we decided to visit the Belur - Lord Chennakeshwara Temple.

The main attraction Chennakesava temple complex which contains the Chennakesava Temple ( dedicated to Chennakeshava , meaning handsome Vishnu) as the centre piece, surrounded by the Kappe Chennigraya temple built by Shantaladevi, queen of king Vishnuvardhana.

The temple is one of the finest examples of Hoysala architecture. It was built by king Vishnuvardhana in commemoration of his victory over the Cholas at Talakad in 1117 CE. Legend has it that it took 103 years to complete and Vishnuvardhana's grandson Veera Ballala II completed the task. The facade of the temple is filled with intricate sculptures and friezes with no portion left blank.

Siegessäule Berlin

The Victory Column (Siegessäule) is a famous monument in Berlin, Germany,designed by Heinrich Strack after 1864 to commemorate the Prussian victory in the Danish-Prussian War.

The now 69 meters tall victory column originally stood at the Königsplatz (now Platz der Republik), the square in front of the Reichstag. It was moved in 1938 by the Nazi government to its current location at the Grosser Stern. The top of the Siegessäule has an observatory, offering great views on Berlin. Looking eastward, you can see the Reichstag, the Brandenburger Gate and of course the Fernsehturm.

The figure, designed by Friedrich Drake and locally known as the 'Golden Else' represents the Goddess of Victory. It weighs a massive 35 tons.

The base is decorated with bas-reliefs of battles, while a mosaic frieze by Anton von Werner higher up the column depicts the founding of the German Empire in 1871.
